I was out shooting in the 25 degree Fahrenheit weather we have here in Ohio and was thinking "Is this good for my camera". I started thinking about the parts of the camera that would be the most effected by the cold. The first thing that came to mind was the tape mechanism and, more importantly, the film strip itself of the miniDV tape(Yes, I know it isn't FILM in the sense of capturing images to the film, but it still writes the data to the strip).
So I did a little experiment and put one of these Sony DVM- 60 PRR tapes into my freezer for 30minutes. The tape didn't freeze at all. The casing was very cold, but the magnetic strip was perfectly fine.
Short test, but 30minutes is a good amount of time in 25 degree weather. Bundle up your body, and bundle your camera.
